Don and Marge Murphy Don and Marge both grew up on the eastern plains of Colorado. They completed their education in Colorado, however, neither has had formal art education. Don cuts, carves and polishes the stones, mostly found on excursions into the desert. The appearance of the finished stone influences the design of the Marge’s wire wrapping. The Murphys are motivated by a desire to create beauty that will please the person who eventually will wear the jewelry. They hope to continue to provide unusual jewelry for the discriminating buyer. “We realized our retirement dream when we left Colorado and moved to Benson Arizona in 2005. We also realized that we would need to find projects to fill our days. Both coming from creative backgrounds, we decided to try making jewelry. “ Don loves to ‘open’ a stone and see what’s inside. Marge revels in twisting and twirling gold and silver wire into eye-catching designs. Together they have formed Desertstone Creations, a part-time home based business.
