Leticia Course
Leticia Course, better known by her friends as “Tish”, has been making art all of her life. As a youngster in a suburb of Los Angeles, candle-making, sculpture of found objects and drawing were her favorite activities. As a young adult, Tish apprenticed as an antique restorer for 10 years and was able to start her own business in the Bay Area, working on wood furnishings, porcelain, oriental lacquer and a variety of objets d’art for the public as well as antiques dealers and auction houses.
Tish obtained her Master’s degree in Social Work in 1989 and moved with her partner to Hawaii in 1995, where she continued to restore antiques and pursue social work in Honolulu. Additionally, Tish and her partner opened a small shop called Kailua Antiques and Funky Art, where the artist sold paintings and antique items she had restored.
In 2005, the women moved to Cochise, where they have a large art studio, and Leticia continues to stretch her artistic abilities in both restoration and fine art.
While primarily self- taught, Tish participates in classes at The Drawing Studio in Tucson, of which she is an associate. Since moving to southeast Arizona, Tish has had her artwork in multiple shows in Willcox, Benson, Douglas, Tucson and St. David. She has also been commissioned by private estates to paint subjects of special meaning to them.
The artwork Tish Course is creating is very eclectic. She is creating paintings of abstracts, landscapes and mixed media with photography. Despite this, it is not difficult to see her own unique hand/voice in her work.
